The first O2 Eco Ratings have been revealed, with the Sony Ericsson Elm gaining the best “eco score.” LG didn’t do very well though as they were judged to have 6 of the 10 least eco-friendly handsets.

These ratings, as worthy as they are can’t claim to be comprehensive as some manufacturers chose not to take part, in the voluntary scheme, most notably Apple. This means if you are an iPhone lover with an eco-conscience, you  can’t actually find out how green your handset is.

The Eco Ratings are calculated using the data is based on information supplied by the manufacturers. Each handset is then scored on the raw materials used, packaging, energy efficiency and recycling options.

There were bonus points for phones that included cameras, on the basis that this could cut down on extra devices being produced. The current results are:

O2’s Ten Most Eco-Friendly Mobile Phones:

Sony Ericsson Elm = 4.3
Nokia 6700 = 4
Nokia C7 = 4
Nokia 1800 = 7
Samsung GT S8500 Wave = 4
Sony Ericsson Zylo = 4
Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini Pro = 4
Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini = 4
Sony Ericsson Vivaz Pro = 3.9
Nokia E500 = 3.9

O2’s Ten Least Eco-Friendly Mobile Phones:

LG Etna = 2.7
Palm Pre Plus = 2.7
LG Chocolate = 2.9
LG Cookie = 2.9
HTC HD2 = 2.9
LG GT350 = 3.1
LG GW300 Etna 2 – 3.1
Samsung C3050 = 3.1
LG GT540 = 3.2
Sony Ericsson Satio = 3.2

The keen-eyed amongst you will also notice that the currently unofficial Nokia C7 sits at number 3, making it even more likely we’ll be seeing it very soon!
